I received a response criticizing me for removing the Powered by WordPress in my site footer. I was a bit taken aback. He seems to miss the notion of Open Source altogether. Open Source doesn’t mean you pay… it’s an expectation of helping the community and WP Engine does just that.

Let’s get real… if WordPress performed well, it wouldn’t require WPEngine or any other managed WordPress hosting. Instead, Matt and the team push paid plugins that should be core to the platform.
